Howard County challenged the A/E Team to transform the existing Atholton High School to meet current educational standards. This task encompassed a complete top-to-bottom modernization aimed at updating the existing dated facility.
Phased construction allowed the school to remain open during the 36 month construction period. The new 52,534 sf addition houses both classrooms and a Fine Arts space. Two additions were constructed at the front of the building: a stair tower with an elevator and cafeteria expansion which helped to update the school’s front façade.
This project achieved a LEED ‘Gold’ Certification from USGBC for its sustainable building design.
The ability to collaborate and coordinate with school staff, community members, administrators and designers helped TCA achieve the end result of a beautiful new modern High School for Howard County.
