Evergreen Elementary School was the first new public school in St. Mary’s County to achieve a LEED NC ‘Gold’ certification. This school also received the ‘Award of Excellence’ as the ‘school project of the year’ by the Maryland Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The use of green vegetated roofs, harvested rain water for flushing toilets, and incorporating a wind turbine and solar PV as teaching tools, are a few of its unique features.
